Thanks for your reply! Is there any way they could have saved his life? I recently found out that John Wayne lost a lung to cancer in 1964 but managed to live another 14/15 years.

Peter Finch was given one shortly after his death for his lead role in the 1977 film "Network" & just this year Heath Ledger was given one for his supporting role as the Joker in the Batman movie "Dark Knight." I have never heard of a posthumous lifetime achievement award, however.
