Thanks for re-posting Akina. The love story is interesting and enjoyable, but a large part of the appeal of the film lies in the rivalry between the refined and haughty Bob and the uncouth and hard-boiled Wallace Beery, although the two of them are…

My favorite scene... that night, the two of them dancing the vals at Roy's country house, Roy carrying her away to the terrace, the way he kisses her, the way he talks to her: "...Life's been hard for you. I know that. You've had to struggle and end…
Vincente Minelli told in an interview in 1979 about Undercurrent:

Dear Linda Alexander
I am glad to be caught in this fan site even if I take it. I was a great fan of Robert Taylor and bought your book recently in the Amazon. I am very sorry that there is not a Japanese translation version.
Unfortunately his old films are not shown much on British on television now-days. Young people don't know what they are missing. I am lucky to have many of Bob's films on video.
Thanks for asking me to be a friend. I have been a fan of Robert Taylor for over 50 years. As a child I'd pester my Mum to take me to see his latest film. Whatever roll he played it was acted with conviction. I loved watching him then - and still do :-)
Thanks for your wonderful photos, Akina. I especially like the ones with Vivien Leigh & Elizabeth Taylor. Actually, it was because I was such a fan of Elizabeth when I was a child & pre-teen that I discovered Robert. I saw the newspaper ads for "Conspirator" & wondered, "who is this man with the same last name as my favorite actress, & why is his name billed ahead of hers?" So I saw the movie in 1950, when I was 11. Also saw "Devil's Doorway" with my family because my dad liked westerns. I thought it was very sad & it was my first exposure to how our country treated Native Americans in the past. Bob Taylor did not bececome my favorite star, however, until I saw "Quo Vadis" for the first time in 1951, when I was 12. And of course, I have always adored "Ivanhoe," a really good movie that starred both gorgeous Taylors. Incidentally, I just bought the DVD of "Conspirator" from the WBShop. Nothing like "Ivanhoe," but fun to watch the Taylors.
Akina: Thx for your thoughts. Do I read you correctly that you think it was good that I didn't include photos other than the cover art? That would be a first. ; > I would've loved to include many photos but it just wasn't economical to do so. And I'm glad you read & enjoyed. Thank you!
Akina: Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm very happy that you have found our Robert Taylor site ... you clearly have excellent taste. Please jump into any conversation, or start your own. You'll find people from different corners of the world here.
As for the book in a Japanese translation, maybe one of these days. I'd like to see it in a variety of translations. Thank you for purchasing it. I do hope you'll let me know your thoughts after you've read it.
