Robert Taylor Movie Star

Reluctant Witness: Robert Taylor, Hollywood, & Communism

I haven't seen all Robert Taylors movies yet. The clips on youtube have given me the opportunity to see scenes from most of them. But I must admit that Im not so interested in the movie it self or the other actors. I allways look for Robert and wait for him to enter the movie and I find myself comparing him to the other actors and no matter if it is an unknown actor or a famous one like Robert Mitchum, Robert Taylor allways shines stronger then the others. Even though I like Robert Mitchum too and many others of Robert Taylors co-actors. But it's something special with Robert Taylor, I can't say what it is, maybe his persona and charisma. He seems to have a strong self esteem and he seems to be sure of himself somehow. I can see that he is a great actor too, I've noticed that he express feelings very well. When Robert is happy his face pracitcally shines, you can see it in his eyes. I love his smile! When he is angry his eyes and face becomes hard and he almost look dangerous, I like that too, ha-ha! And he played so diffrent characters and every one of them that I have seen is believable and suits him. I love his character in Johnny Eager even though he plays a bad man. I also like his character in " her cardboard lover " when he is more of a comedian. It's very hard to say what suits him best becouse he make such a good performance in both.
I think it's sad that many people dosen't know about him, especially young people. The media should give him a lot more attention. He deserve it !!!

Jenny: I have to agree w/you regarding Bob's acting & his voice. I absotively love his voice! Chad Everett told me, when I interviewed him about his friendship w/Bob Taylor, that Bob was a "love statement. The camera loved him, & he loved the camera. He was excited by it," meaning that he just took to being in front of that camera, & he gave it his all when he was in character. All characters.

And Birdy, he did like comedy. In fact, his family always thought he'd be a comedian if he ever became an entertainer because he was always hamming around. For whatever reason, the press saw him as so serious & never gave him his due when it came to comedy. I think it was because he was so understated in his reactions. He used them sparingly &, in doing so, he ended up being that much more expressive.

Unfortunately I haven't seen "Her cardboard lover" entirely yet, but I love him in the clips, you've chosen for youtube, Alejandra. "Bless him" is my favourite sentence! Beside that I love to hear his singing voice (Hmmmmmmh...) and I love to see him with George Sanders, their acting together is priceless. The reviews of that movie are said to have been not the best and somewhere I have read, that he actually didn't like to play in a comedy, but I can't believe that, it was probably rather addressed to flat, stupid and clumsy jokes. His sense of humour seems to have been more subtile, maybe with cynic touch, not so superficial. This is just the sort of humour I prefer. I would have loved to see him in some more comedies. I think, there wouldn't have been the danger to be pigeonholed and stamped, considering the wide range of characters else he played. His fine sense of humour is noticable in "A Yank at Oxford", "Many rivers to cross" and "Stand by for action", too... I agree, Alejandra, it looks natural.

TV channels are airing the same movies over and over again. People don't have the opportunity to know what a multifaceted actor Taylor was. He played a great range of characters in different genres.I love Her Cardboard Lover. I love Taylor doing comedy. He's just natural,he makes it look effortless. When he was young he played on stage Oscar Wilde's most famous play "The Importance of Being Earnest". I would have like to have seen him playing this on screen.
