Hello, All:
I've been asked about the new "Gifts" feature showing up on our site. I know very little about it -- seems it's a new function of Ning, the network on which this site is hosted. As best I can understand, network operators (aka me) can create "gifts", ie, graphics, & members can then use "points" to "buy" these gifts. Keep in mind--this is all virtual. Your gifts appear to be nothing more than graphics you can then put on your page. I see it as probably a way to monetize the application of the sites for those who run them.
For me, this isn't of interest. I have no interest in creating virtual gifts in the first place, & I'm certainly not hosting this site to make money off of any of you in the way it's portrayed herein. If you buy my book on Robert Taylor, well, that's a different story. I appreciate you doing that but it's not a prerequisite, nor is it an extraneous way for me to make money off of you folks who are here because you appreciate Robert Taylor.
Feel free to investigate & review the "gifts" process here for yourself. I believe everyone was "given" a certain number of points & if you choose to use them to send each other a "happy birthday" symbol or anything else already pre-set, feel free to do so. I, however, don't plan to be adding specific Robert Taylor-related "gifts" for sale. And if you think I've misunderstood the intent of the process, please feel free to let me know.
~ Linda
