Robert Taylor Movie Star

Reluctant Witness: Robert Taylor, Hollywood, & Communism

Bob Taylor sung in several films using his own voice. He made his debut in Broadway Melody of 1936 along with June Knight performing I've Got a Feelin' You're Foolin'. He also sung in Three Comrades (Ach wie ist's möglich dann), Her Cardboard Lover (I Dare You), Ivanhoe, Valley of the Kings and Many Rivers to Cross (The Berry Tree). But my favorite Bob's performance is You Found Me and I Found You (Jerome Kern- P.G. Wodehouse), accompanied by Dorothy Malone. This song belongs to "Tip on a Dead Jockey" (1957) in which he plays a former Korean War pilot, a troubled man who can't overcome his war experiences and is afraid to return to flying. It's a very brief piece but I hope you enjoy it.

Thank you for putting this piece of music from Tip on Dead Jockey which I have on tape from the television. I enjoy watching that scene and also rewind it several times. He did have a please signing voice and it does look like he truely playing the piano. He did play the cello and I believe the piano as a child growing up in Nebraska.

I had forgotten Knights of the Round Table! I also play this song over and over again, I love the whole scene with Dorothy Malone and I must say, of all his movies directed by Richard Thorpe (yes, including his classic swashbuckler films) "Tip on a Dead Jockey" is my favorite.

Thanks Alejandra. Did enjoy it. He also sang briefly in "Knights of the Roundtable" in a small group of knights on horseback. But this Jerome Kern-P.G. Wodehouse number is my favorite too. Any time I played my videotape of this movie, I always rewound this scene several times before watching the rest of the movie. I thought he had a pretty good singing voice as well as a fabulous speaking voice.
